Description, Position of Director of Development
The incumbent in this position serves as Director of Development for The Breman Museum, the community-wide facility and repository for Jewish artifacts, memorabilia, exhibitions, and heritage in Greater Atlanta. The Development Director is a seasoned professional with a track record of raising funds from a variety of sources. Major responsibilities include service as the chief major gifts officer who works with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees to identify, cultivate, and solicit substantial unrestricted, restricted, and endowment gifts.
Qualifications:
3-5 years (or more) experience in fund development essential. Must have minimum of Bachelors degree; prefer Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
Major Responsibilities:
- Work with the Board’s Development and Marketing Committee to create an annual fund development and marketing plan based on direction contained in the strategic development plan.
- Coordinate and oversee all fundraising (including grantsmanship), marketing, branding, and communications activities.
- Coordinate recordkeeping activities related to fundraising.
- Serve as a representative and major point of contact on behalf of The Breman Museum to and with the community.
- Contact donors and prospective donors with members of the Board or act on his/her own.
- Identify donor concerns and issues and act to troubleshoot and resolve problems with coordination of staff or appropriate contact with Board representative(s).
- Implement donor cultivation and recognition events.
Skills, Knowledges, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge in fund raising principles, practices, and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse groups. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills while dealing with museum patrons, professional staff, lay leadership, and community leaders. Must be effective at being a team player.
- Ability to understand and interact with broad financial issues, including budgeting and accounting.
- Computer skills – particularly spreadsheets, word processing and data bases; desktop publishing experience desirable.
- Ability to manage and prioritize a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of Jewish customs, ritual, and history.
- Professional and personal conduct must exemplify high personal values and ethical considerations and reflect credit upon The Breman Museum and the community it serves.
The salary and personnel benefits associated with this position are negotiable. Knowledge of Atlanta’s Jewish community desirable.
