In Our Hands: a Personal Story of the Bielski Partisans
Speaker: Sharon Rennert
Sunday, September 26, at 2 p.m.
The Bielskis were three Jewish brothers who refused to succumb to the hopelessness of the Holocaust. They formed an armed brigade and conducted sabotage missions against the Nazis. When WWII ended, over 1,200 Jews emerged from the woods. Their story is told in the Hollywood film Defiance starring Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski, the group’s leader.
Filmmaker Sharon Rennert, the granddaughter of the group’s commander, Tuvia Bielski, has been exploring her family legacy from Brooklyn to Belarus, Israel and Lithuania. Her multi-media presentation provides a unique and personal glimpse into the real characters behind Defiance and includes Bielski family movies and excerpts from her documentary, In Our Hands: A Personal Story of the Bielski Partisans.
