Jewish Genealogical Society of Georgia Meeting Details

Daniel Horowitz Garcia will be presenting for this JGSG Meeting. Since 2014 Daniel has been the regional manager of StoryCorps in Atlanta. StoryCorps is a national media organization that helps people record, preserve, and share their life stories. He is a historian specializing in oral history. Before getting his Masters in History Daniel worked in the nonprofit field. He has 20 years' experience working on labor, environmental, criminal justice, and anti-poverty issues.



Free for Members. Non-Members, participation in this event is included in the cost of general museum admission.

    Bearing Witness: Alfred Schneider, PhD

    Even though school was illegal in Romania for jews in 1941, Alfred and two friends started their own course of studies and were later tutored by teachers within the ghetto. His academic prowess, ability to learn multiple languages and musical talents proved pivotal to his survival. Alfred Schneider overcame many challenges after the Holocaust as he laid the foundations for a new life.

    Historic Jewish Atlanta Tour: Vice City

    Plunge into historic Jewish Atlanta with exclusive tours of some of the city's most significant sites! The unabashed are invited to join us for a deep dive into Atlanta's notorious red-light district; the combustable push-and-pull behind prohibition and race relations; and the dare-devil "trippers" who quenched Atlanta's insatiable thirst by smuggling moonshine in souped-up Fords from the north Georgia mountains and laid the groundwork for NASCAR.
