This performance is part of The 2019 Molly Blank Concert Series Celebrating Jewish Contributions to Music.

From the Top is NPR’s hit radio show, airing on more than 220 stations nationwide. It is a weekly, hour-long showcase of America’s top young classical musicians, ages 8–18, featuring performances and interviews. Hailed by critics as “the best thing to happen to classical music since Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s Concerts,” this one-of-a-kind concert will revolve around the theme of Jewish Music and bring a family performance series to the Breman stage. The show will be guest hosted by one of the foremost pianists and iconoclasts of our time, Lara Downes.

    An Interview with Holocaust Survivor Werner Reich: Magic in the Death Camp

    Werner Reich was captured and imprisoned when he was 15 years old and spent time in three different concentration camps. While at Auschwitz, he saw a magician--the Great Nivelli--do a card trick, and this spawned a lifelong interest in magic. Werner joins magician, author, and entrepreneur Joshua Jay onstage for an interview about his unbelievable and harrowing time at Auschwitz, and the magic that helped him get through it and past it.

    Do you want to learn some awesome magic? This summer at the Breman you'll have your chance! Every week a staff member or a visiting guest magician will perform and teach magic that you can do using items you have around the house. All ages welcome!

    The Music of the Marx Brothers: An Evening of Song and Comedy

    As Groucho once said: “time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana.” In the first half of the 20th century, The Marx Brothers revolutionized American comedy, creating indelible comic personas in their Broadway shows and films. This comic concert blends songs and anecdotes to paint a picture of the Marx Brothers' comic and musical accomplishments. The cast and band features seven accomplished local musicians and musical theater veterans. Laugh out loud to dozens of songs and learn about the ways that the Marx Brothers' Jewish heritage impacted their artistry and point of view.
