Live Author Lecture

Presented by The Breman Museum in partnership with the Savannah Jewish Federation, Savannah Jewish Educational Alliance, and the Southern Jewish Historical Society


Marcia Jo Zerivitz, cultural anthropologist, author, and public historian, is the Founding Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. Using PowerPoint images, she will speak about the history of Florida Jews, highlighting some stories of contemporary personalities who contribute much to the quality of life of Floridians and beyond—names that are recognized globally—and of those who impacted history beginning 257 years ago and possibly in 16th century Florida. Stephen J. Whitfield will then moderate a discussion.

    The Afro-Semitic Experience is a band that offers a powerful and poetic musical experience that celebrates diversity, promotes social justice, and inspires hope and joy. They blend Jewish and African-American music to create a dynamic and energizing sound. The group was founded in 1998 by pianist and composer Warren Byrd and bassist David Chevan and has since expanded to include a diverse group of talented musicians.
