Celebrate Maurice Sendak's Big Day at the Breman!

Maurice Sendak would be 87 years old today! In honor of his birthday, enjoy a Buy One Get One ticket offer and come experience his creative genius with extra activities in the gallery!


  • Children’s book reading at Rosie’s stoop: 10am, 12pm, 2pm  
  • Drop-in craft making in the gallery classroom: from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 4pm
  • Really Rosie animated short playing every half hour in Arbiser Theater: from 10am to 4pm 


Other ongoing activities:

  • Children can dress up like a wild thing, slide into a bowl of chicken soup with rice, and bake bread in the night kitchen
  • Gallery Guide provided for older children to explore the exhibition 
  • Put on a play on the Brundibar stage (we have scripts for you!) 
  • Make a face out of everyday objects on our iPad interactive inspired by Israeli artist Hanoch Piven. 


The exhibition also features information about Read Aloud strategies developed by the Atlanta Speech School’s Rollins Center for Language and Literacy.

    The Story Never Told: The Fate of Iraq’s Jews

    Maurice Shohet will discuss the history of Iraq’s Jewish community, exploring its decline from a once thriving community to today’s reality of a dispersed, diaspora existence. In addition, as a Jewish Iraqi refugee himself, he will share personal anecdotes related to the history of Jews in Iraq.

    Panel Discussion with the Creators of "Out of Darkness: Two Remain"

    Join The Atlanta Opera and The Breman Museum for a free discussion with the internationally acclaimed creators of Out of Darkness: Two Remain. The panel features composer Jake Heggie, librettist Gene Scheer, and the original commissioner of the opera, Mina Miller, from the Seattle based organization Music of Remembrance.
