Summary/Abstract:  Abe Goldstein (1892-1982) was a businessman, civic leader and philanthropist, and devoted his life to the good of his community. He founded Prior Tire, an Atlanta business that existed for much of the 20th century. Of special interest are the business records relating to the early years and evolution of Prior Tire from a small enterprise to a dynamic company.

Biographical/Historical Note:  Abe Goldstein (1892-1982) was born in Atlanta, the son of Charles and Betsy Goldstein. In 1920, with the help of partner Sam Levy, Abe Goldstein founded Prior Tire, an Atlanta business that still exists today. The following year, he married Rubye Eplan, the daughter of Leon Eplan. Mr. Goldstein was a businessman, civic leader and philanthropist, and devoted his life to the good of his community. He spent most of his life fighting racial and religious prejudice. He was president of numerous civic and religious organizations, including the Atlanta Jewish Federation, Ahavath Achim Congregation, the Jewish Home, the Atlanta Tire Dealers and the Georgia State Tire Dealers. He also served as a member of the Georgia Governors staff under three different administrations.   

Scope and Content  The Abe Goldstein Family Papers are arranged alphabetically by folder and chronologically within each folder. Of special interest are the business records relating to the early years and evolution of Prior Tire from a small enterprise to the dynamic company that it is today.
