Summary/Abstract:  Founder of the American Mills Company in Atlanta, Armand May served as captain of the drive in Georgia to raise funds for the American Jewish Relief Committee which provided aid to Jewish refugees of Central and Eastern Europe, 1921-1922. His papers consist of Correspondence, newspaper clippings and a scrapbook.

Biographical/Historical Note:  Armand May was born in Marseille and immigrated to the United States as a child. His communal interests were extensive. He was involved with the Hebrew Orphans Home, Jewish Children’s Services, American Jewish Committee, the National Conference of Christians and Jews, the Atlanta Jewish Welfare Fund, the Joint Distribution Committee, and B’nai B’rith. He was a member of the Temple and the Standard Club.

Scope and Content:  Researchers studying the Armand May Papers will gain insight into Jewish life in Atlanta, Georgia, during the 20th century. All material is arranged in alphabetical order by subject and chronologically within each folder.
