Biographical/Historical Note:  Atlanta YAD was created in 1992 by the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta. The Jewish community acknowledged that the significant majority of college age and post-college, single, young adults were uninvolved, unaffiliated, at risk, and needed to be recognized as a community priority. As a result of these findings, the community mandated the creation of Atlanta YAD to effectively serve these populations.

Atlanta YAD’s mission was to serve as the umbrella agency in the Atlanta and Athens Jewish Community’s for services to the approximately 4,500 college age youths on eight metropolitan campuses, the over 1,400 Jewish students attending the University of Georgia, and the estimated 9,000 Jewish single, young adults through the age of thirty-five.

The agency sought to fulfill the Jewish cultural, educational, social, and spiritual needs of its target populations, foster Jewish identity, and facilitate integration into the Jewish community.

In 2002, Atlanta YAD affiliated with Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Life, an umbrella group for Jewish programs at more than 150 colleges in the United States and Canada. The board voted to change the name of the organization to Hillels of Georgia.

Scope and Content:  The Hillel of Georgia Records contain meeting minutes, program information, correspondence, flyers, capital campaign material, and various administrative files.
