Biography

Isser gottlieb was born in Savannah, Georgia. His father was also born in Savannah and his mother was from Birmingham, Alabama. His family owned and worked in the bakery, Gottliebs. The family always lived above the bakery. The bakery soon became a Savannah tradition with early recipes from family. They also created recipes for items such as the chocolate chewy and Ava’s chocolate suicide cake.

Isser has three sons. They are all in the food business – 2 chefs and the third with a business degree. Together, they are looking into opening a restaurant.

Scope of Interview

Isser and his wife Ava, recalled his life growing up in Savannah with his family in the bakery business. He shares how practices changed over the years and how they adapted. Isser reminisced about different and favorite items and individuals that he encountered along the way.
