Summary/Abstract:  David Alterman (1917-1993) was one of five brothers who, with their father, owned and operated a wholesale grocery business in Atlanta.  David (Dave) Alterman and his wife, Sara, were also active in synagogue life and a wide variety of Jewish community organizations.

Arrangement:  All material is arranged alphabetically by subject and chronologically within each folder.

Biographical/Historical Note:  David Alterman, a native Atlantan, executive vice president of Alterman Foods, Inc.  Past president of Ahavath Achim Synagogue, Ahavath Achim Men’s Club,  Hebrew Acacemy of Atlanta, and Atlanta Zionist Council.  Former meber of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America and former vice president of United Synagogues of America, Southeastern Region and Atlanta Jewissh Welfare Federation..  Mr. Alterman served 12 years as youth activities chairman of Ahavath Achim Synagogue, and former the original chapter of United Youth Group in Atlanta.  Mr. Alterman taught in Ahavath Achim Religious School for 15 years, and was the first chairman of the Harry H. Epstein School.  He served as chairman of the Ahavath Achim Israel Bond Dinner in 1970.  He has served on the boards of Atlanta Jewish Community Center and the Progressive Club.

Scope and Content:  The collection consists of correspondence, programs, invitations and newspaper articles.
